Kıyâme Suresi

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ

lâ uḳsimü biyevmi-lḳiyâmeh.

I swear by the Day of Resurrection

وَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلنَّفْسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ

velâ uḳsimü binnefsi-llevvâmeh.

And I swear by the reproaching soul [to the certainty of resurrection].

أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ

eyaḥsebü-l'insânü ellen necme`a `iżâmeh.

Does man think that We will not assemble his bones?

بَلَىٰ قَٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّىَ بَنَانَهُۥ

belâ ḳâdirîne `alâ en nüsevviye benâneh.

Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips.

بَلْ يُرِيدُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ

bel yürîdü-l'insânü liyefcüra emâmeh.

But man desires to continue in sin.

يَسْـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ

yes'elü eyyâne yevmü-lḳiyâmeh.

He asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection?"

فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلْبَصَرُ

feiẕâ beriḳa-lbeṣar.

So when vision is dazzled

وَخَسَفَ ٱلْقَمَرُ

veḫasefe-lḳamer.

And the moon darkens

وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ

vecümi`a-şşemsü velḳamer.

And the sun and the moon are joined,

يَقُولُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ ٱلْمَفَرُّ

yeḳûlü-l'insânü yevmeiẕin eyne-lmeferr.

Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape?"

كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ

kellâ lâ vezer.

No! There is no refuge.

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمُسْتَقَرُّ

ilâ rabbike yevmeiẕin-lmüsteḳarr.

To your Lord, that Day, is the [place of] permanence.

يُنَبَّؤُا۟ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ

yünebbeü-l'insânü yevmeiẕim bimâ ḳaddeme veeḫḫar.

Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead and kept back.

بَلِ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةٌۭ

beli-l'insânü `alâ nefsihî beṣîrah.

Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness,

وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ

velev elḳâ me`âẕîrah.

Even if he presents his excuses.

لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِۦٓ

lâ tüḥarrik bihî lisâneke lita`cele bih.

Move not your tongue with it, [O Muhammad], to hasten with recitation of the Qur'an.

إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُۥ وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ

inne `aleynâ cem`ahû veḳur'âneh.

Indeed, upon Us is its collection [in your heart] and [to make possible] its recitation.

فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَٰهُ فَٱتَّبِعْ قُرْءَانَهُۥ

feiẕâ ḳara'nâhü fettebi` ḳur'âneh.

So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation.

ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُۥ

ŝümme inne `aleynâ beyâneh.

Then upon Us is its clarification [to you].

كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ

kellâ bel tüḥibbûne-l`âcileh.

No! But you love the immediate

وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلْءَاخِرَةَ

veteẕerûne-l'âḫirah.

And leave the Hereafter.

وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ نَّاضِرَةٌ

vucûhüy yevmeiẕin nâḍirah.

[Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant,

إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌۭ

ilâ rabbihâ nâżirah.

Looking at their Lord.

وَوُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَاسِرَةٌۭ

vevucûhüy yevmeiẕim bâsirah.

And [some] faces, that Day, will be contorted,

تَظُنُّ أَن يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌۭ

teżunnü ey yüf`ale bihâ fâḳirah.

Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking.

كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِىَ

kellâ iẕâ belegati-tterâḳiy.

No! When the soul has reached the collar bones

وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍۢ

veḳîle men râḳ.

And it is said, "Who will cure [him]?"

وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلْفِرَاقُ

veżanne ennehü-lfirâḳ.

And the dying one is certain that it is the [time of] separation

وَٱلْتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ

velteffeti-ssâḳu bissâḳ.

And the leg is wound about the leg,

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمَسَاقُ

ilâ rabbike yevmeiẕin-lmesâḳ.

To your Lord, that Day, will be the procession.

فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ

felâ ṣaddeḳa velâ ṣallâ.

And the disbeliever had not believed, nor had he prayed.

وَلَٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ

velâkin keẕẕebe vetevellâ.

But [instead], he denied and turned away.

ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ

ŝümme ẕehebe ilâ ehlihî yetemeṭṭâ.

And then he went to his people, swaggering [in pride].

أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ

evlâ leke feevlâ.

Woe to you, and woe!

ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰٓ

ŝümme evlâ leke feevlâ.

Then woe to you, and woe!

أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ أَن يُتْرَكَ سُدًى

eyaḥsebü-l'insânü ey yütrake südâ.

Does man think that he will be left neglected?

أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةًۭ مِّن مَّنِىٍّۢ يُمْنَىٰ

elem yekü nuṭfetem mim meniyyiy yümnâ.

Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted?

ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةًۭ فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ

ŝümme kâne `aleḳaten feḫaleḳa fesevvâ.

Then he was a clinging clot, and [Allah] created [his form] and proportioned [him]

فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ

fece`ale minhü-zzevceyni-ẕẕekera vel'ünŝâ.

And made of him two mates, the male and the female.

أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحْۦِىَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ

eleyse ẕâlike biḳâdirin `alâ ey yuḥyiye-lmevtâ.

Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead?
